Also co-headlining the card will be former interim UFC lightweight champion and No. 5 ranked contender Tony Ferguson and No. 9 ranked Beneil Dariush, looking to extend his six-fight win streak Saturday night.

UFC 262: OLIVEIRA vs. CHANDLER will take place Saturday, May 15 at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. All bouts will be streamed on ESPN+ in English and Spanish. The early prelims begin at 6:30p ET/3:30p PT on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass. The prelims will be distributed on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ beginning at 8p ET/5p PT. The UFC 262 main card will stream exclusively on ESPN+ Pay-Per-View starting at 10p ET/7p PT.

UFC submission king Oliveira (30-8, 1 NC, fighting out of Sao Paulo, Brazil) intends to make the most of his first shot at the title by delivering another record setting performance. Owner of the most UFC Performance of the Night awards, most submissions and most finishes, he established himself as an elite contender with remarkable victories over Tony Ferguson, Kevin Lee and Jim Miller. He now looks to extend his impressive win streak with his best showing yet in the biggest fight of his life.

Chandler (22-5, fighting out of Deerfield Beach, Fla.) quickly won the attention and hearts of fans with his debut first-round finish over top contender Dan Hooker earlier this year. Long seen as one of the top competitors outside of UFC, he secured wins over former champions Benson Henderson (twice) and Eddie Alvarez to earn his spot in the world’s premier MMA organization. Chandler now attempts to accomplish his main goal of strapping UFC gold around his waist by taking out Oliveira in a statement victory.

Soriano’s first round back in the Octagon since 2015 was a good one, as he tagged and rattled Giagos several times with his right hands. Giagos kept his composure, though, scoring a takedown late in the round, and in the second, “The Spartan” went all-in for the takedown. In an ensuing scramble, Giagos locked in a D’Arce choke, and that ended the bout, with the official time of the finish 3:59 of round two.

Scores were 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 for Lutz, now 12-1. Aguilar falls to 17-5.

Lutz had a solid opening round behind a crisp left hook and a takedown with a little over a minute to go in the frame, and while Aguilar continued to take the fight to the newcomer in the second, Lutz countered smoothly, the left remaining his weapon of choice.

Told by his corner that he needed to make a move in the third, Aguilar rushed out of his corner for the third round and was successful in making it a dogfight for a spell until Lutz scored a takedown with three minutes left. With two to go, Aguilar fought his way back to his feet, and while he got in some hard punches in down the stretch, it was too little too late.

Official result: Tucker Lutz def. Kevin Aguilar via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Gina Mazany vs Priscila Cachoeira

Brazilian flyweight Priscila Cachoeira scored her second straight knockout win, stopping Gina Mazany in the second round.

After an exchange of punches to kick off the action, Mazany (7-5) took Cachoeira (10-3) down less than a minute into the fight. Solid ground-and-pound work by Mazany followed, and though Cachoeira got a right hand in once they stood up late in the frame, Mazany put the fight back on the mat seconds later, keeping her foe grounded until the horn.

Mazany went right for the takedown to start round two and she got it, staying in control until the midway point, when referee Mike Beltran restarted the action. As they rose, Mazany was tired and showing a cut on the side of her left eye and Cachoeira began to surge, tossing off a couple takedown attempts as she unloaded with her strikes. And after a series of unanswered blows, Beltran had seen enough, halting the bout at 4:51 of round two.

Lee took a little while to get warmed up, but in the second half of round one, a left hand rattled Shevchenko and led to a takedown. And once round two started, a throw to the mat spelled the beginning of the end for Shevchenko, as Lee landed elbows and then tried to lock in a series of submissions, with a late armbar being the one that finished the fight at 4:52 of the second stanza.

Pickett (11-6) locked up with Wright (12-1, 1 NC) early, but the San Antonio native landed a series of elbows that rocked Pickett and forced him to give up the clinch. Pickett tried to clear his head, but Wright was relentless in his attack, with a knee dropping him to the mat. A barrage of ground strikes followed by Wright, prompting referee Kerry Hatley to stop the fight at 1:04 of round one.

Lando Vannata vs Mike Grundy

Lando Vannata's featherweight debut was a successful one, as he scored a three-round split decision victory over Mike Grundy.

The first round was a tough one to call, as Vannata got in some shots but was forced to defend Grundy’s grappling attack for much of the frame, with the Brit hitting on two of his nine takedown attempts.

Vannata pulled ahead in the second as he stayed off the mat and implemented his slick striking game effectively, Grundy did land a couple hard right hands, though, setting up an interesting final frame.

The fighters traded takedowns early in the third round, Vannata’s slam being the more notable of the two, but the two went back to their feet quickly, with Grundy getting in the harder shots while Vannata was the busier striker.

Official result: Lando Vannata def. Mike Grundy via split decision (30-27, 29-28, 27-30)

Jacare Souza vs Andre Muniz

Middleweight up and comer Andre Muniz may have made the move from prospect to contender, as he submitted perennial standout Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in the opening round.

A minute into the fight, Souza put Muniz on the deck and began throwing hard strikes until Muniz found his way upright and soon returned the favor with his own takedown. Souza rose quickly, but Muniz stayed locked on for a brief spell. After putting the fight back on the mat, Muniz locked up his foe’s arm and ended matters, with Souza suffering a broken arm in the process. The official time of the armbar finish was 3:59 of the first round.

Shane Burgos vs Edson Barboza

In a bout that lived up to its advance billing, featherweight contenders Edson Barboza and Shane Burgos went to war until Barboza outlasted his foe and stopped him in the third round.

Barboza went after Burgos’ legs from the start, and he got in several before Burgos started making him miss. The New Yorker kept marching forward, and his jab was sharp, marking up Barboza’s eye. And as the round progressed, Burgos’ body attack was paying off. A spinning back kick by Barboza rattled Burgos, though, and a couple right hands forced Burgos to reset and gather himself.

The back-and-forth action continued in round two, each shot wince-inducing and designed to end the fight. Soon, Barboza was bleeding from a cut on his shin, but he kept throwing kicks to Burgos’ leg and body, while Burgos mixed up his attacks nicely and his opponent’s face was showing it.

There was more of the same in the third, but a right hand by Barboza landed flush, and a couple moments later, it was a delayed reaction as Burgos staggered to the fence and fell to the mat. A follow-up by Barboza was next and the fight was stopped by referee Mike Beltran at 1:16 of the final round.

With the win, the No.13-ranked Barboza moves to 22-9. The No.9-ranked Burgos falls to 13-3.

Official result: Edson Barboza def. Shane Burgos via TKO (strikes) at 1:16 of round three

Scores were 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27 for the No.2-ranked Chookagian, now 16-4. The No.7-ranked Araujo falls to 10-3.

Araujo was swinging hard from the start, keeping Chookagian from getting into a rhythm until the second half of the round. That prompted Araujo to look for a takedown late, but Chookagian defended well.

Araujo got the fight to the mat in the second minute of round two, and she immediately locked up a guillotine choke. When that didn’t work, she let go and moved into the mount, where she sought an arm triangle. Chookagian got loose, though, and as the two stood, she landed several solid shots on a tiring Araujo.

Chookagian put it all together in the third round as she had her best round of the fight thanks to her busy striking attack, and that was enough to secure the victory on the scorecards.

Official result: Katlyn Chookagian def. Viviane Araujo via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Matt Schnell vs Rogerio Bontorin

Schnell was the aggressor throughout the first round, but the most effective shots were scored by Bontorin, who peppered his foe with leg kicks and landed hard punches upstairs.

The pace dipped in the second and the fans at Toyota Center let the fighters know it, but again, the strikes that made the biggest impression came from Bontorin, with the most notable being a left hand that staggered Schnell with a little over a minute to go.

Schnell started the third well, but midway through the frame, Bontorin hurt Schnell and then took the fight to the mat, all good signs for the Brazilian, especially as he kept his foe grounded until the final horn.

Bontorin, who replaced Alex Perez, missed weight for the bout at 137 pounds.

Official result: Rogerio Bontorin def. Matt Schnell via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28

Co-Main Event: Tony Ferguson vs Beneil Dariush

Beneil Dariush Post-Fight Interview | UFC 262: Oliveira vs Chandler
/

Dariush put the pressure on Ferguson from the start and after landing several strikes, he put the fight on the mat in the second minute. Both fighters stayed busy there, but Dariush’s control from the top position until the end of the first round was the best visual for the judges.

The fight went back to the mat as round two began, this time with Ferguson trying to sink in a D’Arce choke, but eventually “El Cucuy” was forced to release the hold, allowing Dariush to resume his ground attack from the top position. A scramble with two minutes left put Ferguson in trouble as Dariush looked for a heel hook, but he was able to get free. Dariush’s lead was getting bigger, though, putting Ferguson in a position where he needed a third-round finish to win.

A slam by Dariush floored Ferguson once again, and the surging contender wasn’t about to let him back up. And he didn’t, as Dariush controlled the action once more until the final horn sounded.

Official result: Beneil Dariush def. Tony Ferguson via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Charles Oliveira Post-Fight Interview | UFC 262: Oliveira vs Chandler
/

It took 28 fights, and several twists and turns, but Charles Oliveira is now a UFC world champion after stopping Michael Chandler in the second round of their UFC 262 main event in Houston’s Toyota Center to win the lightweight title vacated by the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“I’m proving to everybody that I’m the lion of lions,” said Sao Paulo’s Oliveira, who has now won nine straight in becoming the 11th undisputed lightweight champion in UFC history. “Do Bronx” also set the record for most finishes in UFC history with 17, passing Donald Cerrone.

A leg kick by Oliveira put Chandler on the deck as the fight began, but Chandler jumped up and nearly caught Oliveira in a guillotine choke as the fight went to the mat. Oliveira got loose and took Chandler’s back, and while the Missouri native tried to slam his way out of trouble, that only tightened the body triangle the bloodied Oliveira had. Remarkably, Chandler exploded out of the hold and got free, and with two minutes left, the two stood. While standing, Chandler hurt Oliveira and went on the attack as the Brazilian fell to the mat, but Oliveira cleared his head and stayed busy from his back. Chandler kept the heat on, though, and he ended the round in control.

Seconds into round two, Oliveira turned everything around, as a left hook dropped Chandler to the mat. Chandler tried to recover, but Oliveira kept coming and kept punching, and after a series of unanswered blows, referee Dan Miragliotta had seen enough, stopping the bout 19 seconds into the second round.

The 31-year-old Oliveira moves to 31-8, 1 NC with the win. Chandler falls to 22-6.

Official result: Charles Oliveira def. Michael Chandler via TKO (strikes) at :19 of round two
