UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs Till Main Card

Main Event: Derek Brunson vs Darren Till

Veteran middleweight contender Derek Brunson made an impressive statement in his UFC Fight Night main event against Darren Till, extending his winning streak to five with a third-round submission victory.

Till got off to a fast start, putting Brunson on his back foot, but in the second minute, it was Brunson leading the dance thanks to a takedown. While on the mat, Brunson landed several hard shots from the top position, but with a minute left, a scramble allowed Till to get back to his feet, albeit with a face marked up from the ground strikes.

Derek Brunson Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs Till
/

Till fought off a pair of Brunson takedown attempts in the first two minutes of the second stanza, but the third time was the charm for the North Carolina native, who put Till on the mat with three minutes to go, and when you mix in the subsequent ground control, it was another round for Brunson.

Finally getting into an offensive rhythm, Till began firing off leg kicks at his foe, then hurt him with a punch in the second minute. Brunson’s subsequent takedown attempt was sloppy, but effective, and after landing in mount, he took Till’s back and sunk in the rear naked choke that forced a tap out at 2:13 of the third frame.

With the win, the No.5-ranked Brunson moves to 23-7. The No.7-ranked Till falls to 18-4-1.

Official result – Derek Brunson def. Darren Till via submission (rear naked choke) at 2:13 of round three.

McCann kept playing the role of aggressor in round two, but while she was getting in punches on her foe, Kim’s counters were just as sharp as she picked her shots from long range. McCann was not to be denied, though, and she even scored a takedown late to add to her point total.

There was no let-up to the back-and-forth action in the third, and though Kim appeared to have the lead early, McCann surged at the end before the fight was sent to the judges.

There was solid work from both fighters in the opening round, but Erosa showed off his veteran experience as he used his height and reach advantage to continually tag Jourdain from long range. Jourdain landed some good shots as he pursued his foe, but it was Erosa who ended the round stronger as he rocked the Canadian.

On paper, the second was as close as the first, but when it came to the more damaging blows, it was clearly Jourdain’s frame, as he landed several left hands, punctuated by a knockdown with 90 seconds remaining.

Marc-Andre Barriault Post-Fight Interview | UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs Till
/

It was a largely tactical first round, with Barriault pressuring his foe while Lungiambula used his grappling effectively at times. Both fighters picked up the pace in the second, Barriault continuing to chase a big right hand, and though Lugiambula answered with some solid shots of his own, his decision to let the Canadian push him back throughout was costing him.

In the third, an eye poke by Lungiambula brought a halt to the bout and drew a stern warning from referee Chris Tognoni, and once the action resumed, a fight broke out, with some good exchanges seeing both men land at close range. Barriault has more gas in the tank, though, and it showed as he pursued Lungiambula to the final horn.

Official result – Marc-Andre Barriault def. Dalcha Lungiambula via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
